THE application by Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., for 34 additional excursions and tours from Bradford, Farsley, Horsforth, Leeds and Stanningley, and 20 new football destinations from Bradford and Leeds, has proved only partly successful (The Commercial Motor, July 27).

In a reserved decision, the Yorkshire Licensing Authority has granted 19 new destinations on each licence and, in addition, five new football excursions on the Leeds licence and four on that operating from Bradford.

The new destinations, with the exception of football matches (three vehicles), and Silverstone and Oulton Park •(two vehicles), are restricted to one vehicle on any day. Linking to common destinations will be allowed.

Proposed circular tours to the east and west coast, and excursions tia the• Lake District, Yorkshire abbeys, caves and caverns, to which strong objections were raised on the ground of abstraction from stage services already running at a loss, were refused.

At the original hearing on May 29, the application was described as the most ambitious ever made by Wallace Arnold. If it were successful it would result in an almost complete monopoly in the area.

Mr. J. M. Barr, for Wallace Arnold, said they carried more than 250,000 passengers in 1955, and well over a million people made inquiries at •their offices. They wanted variety for these customers in order to refine their travelling taste.
