Renault Trucks UK takes on failed MRS Distribution's former vehicles

RENAULT TRUCKS UK says it is in a strong position to handle the vehicles returning from failed Bathgate haulier MRS Distribution, which went into administration last month.

Comparisons have been drawn to the demise of City Logistics and City Truck Rental in 2002, which saw Renault Trucks potentially face the remarketing of 600 trucks. In the end, a third of the returning vehicles were taken by rental company Collease. Renault Trucks bought and remarketed 200 from finance companies, while other finance houses moved the majority of vehicles into other contracts, with the remainder drip-fed back into the market, Nigel Butler, commercial director at Renault Trucks, plays down comparisons and says Renault learnt lessons from the City debacle.

I-le says: As a company, we manage buybacks very closely. We have a more robust TruckPlus used truck network to cope with returning vehicles and short-term shocks."

Butler says many of the returning MRS vehicles, aged between two and four years, were due back this year anyway.

All it means is that we have picked some up early," he adds. "Where we haven't provided the finance agreement, then we will work with the relevant finance house to help get them back into the market and even sell the vehicles for them."
