Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TREVOR PROBERT'S assertion (CM 9 September) that "MAN does not make 'V' engines for truck applications" is incorrect. As he also says, "I feel most readers appreciate accuracy': please allow me to clarify the matter.

While the MAN VS engine is the result of joint design development between MAN and Liebherr, most of the design input was by MAN. More importantly, MAN manufactures these engines in its specialised Nuremberg engine plant, on a dedicated production line for all V engines — they are 100% MAN engines, with all that brings in terms of quality and performance. Liehhcir does support MAN production by machining some of the components used, and MAN, in turn, supplies Liebherr with both VS and in-line engines for use in its own vehicles.
