Leaving Leaf hurst

HAULIER Smith and Robinson, of Leeds, has appointed :a new depot engineer for its Manchester depot. He is David Whalley who moves from Leafhurst Ltd, of Darwin, Lancs.

Mr Whalley began his career with his family haulage and agricultural business, then held posts with several Lancashire-based hauliers before moving to his new job.

At Lothian Regional Transport, the new traffic manager is Peter Burden, formerly with the regional as assistant traffic manager.

Mr Burden succeeds Neil Townend who moves to Greater Glasgow PTE as director of operations.

At the same time, 33-year-old Ron House becomes assistant traffic manager. He moves from Leicester City Transport.

TDP Shipping and Forwarding has appointed a new sales director. He is Barry Gibson and he will have special responsibility for the promotion and development of the company.

Mr Gibson moves to his new job from W. E. Deane where he was sales manager.

At the same time, David Tomkinson becomes the company's operations manager, moving from Alltransport International where he was trained for home and overseas managerial jobs. Heron Motor Group has appointed Michael Sheeran as group manager in addition to his post as a main board director. He will be working with chief executive Peter Reynolds in control of trading.

Shelvoke and Drewry has made two new technical appointments. Roy Parker is to succeed Jim Bruce as north eastern sales representative and will also take on responsibility for Cumbria.

Peter Annely becomes technical representative for the South East in succession to D. H. Stevens.

New East Anglian representative for Intertruck is Peter Jipson, former branch manager of S. T. Piercy, also an Intertruck stockist. At the same time, Mike Holmes is the new representative for the company's North Western region.

Carol Jordan is also joining the company as marketing services administrator, a new post designed to carry through marketing activities.

Powell Duffryn has appointed a new Scottish sales engineer. He is Donald McKoo who takes on the company's Scottish area.

It is with regret that we announce the death of Charles Burton, designer of the Mighty Antar military vehicle for the Thorneycroft company and who was responsible for the first European bogie sixwheeler vehicle. Mr Burton was 85.
