T4JEGOTIATIONS are taking place this week

between BRS and the Transport and General Workers' Union following the BRS announcement that it needs to dismiss as redundant 40 drivers in the West Midlands.

A BRS spokesman said: "We have a situation where our labour force is in excess of the amount of work available. We have given the union notice of our intentions and we are having talks to find a mutually satisfactory arrangement".

Mr. Alan Law, the TGWU officer responsible for membership in the road haulage industry, said: "Although we are having talks with BRS, there will be no redundancy among transport men in Birmingham. Our policy is work-sharing, not redundancy. We shall fight this move tooth and nail".

ERS employs about 800 drivers in the West Midlands.
