A Forward-control Four-cylinder 5-tonner with 16-ft. 6-in. Platform and a 20-26-seater Six-cylinder Passenger Vehicle

ADDITIONAL to its existing range, a new goods vehicle and a passenger model are being introduced by Morris Commercial Cars, Ltd., Adderley Park, Birmingham, 8. The former is a 5-ton forward-control platform lorry and the latter a 20-26-seater.

, An outstanding attraction of the 5-tonner is its generous platform area, the length of the loading space being 16 ft. 6 ins. The chassis is powered by a 75 b.h.p. four-cylindered petrol engine, has Lockheed hydraulic brakes and is equipped with 34 by 7 tyres. Further to enhance the smooth-riding qualities of the machine, progressive springing is incorporated in the suspension system.

Of all-steel construction, the cab is strongly built and well ventilated, whilst the vehicle may be supplied, if required, with tailboard and drop-sides. As a platform lorry, the complete vehicle costs £397, the price of the chassis and cab being £970.

In the case of the new passenger vehicle, a six-cylindered ...engine forms the power unit. It develops 80 b.h.p. The machine, which has been built to conform with Ministry of Transport requirements, has Lockheed brakes, cam-and-lever steering and 12-volt

electrical equipment. A special feature has been made of comfortable travel for passengers, and to this cud progressive springing and 7.5 by 20 tyres are used, whilst the machine has the company's Equi-load system of weight distribution.

The model is of a type that is admirably adapted for one-man operation on service over routes in thinly populated districts.

It is worthy of note that Austenitic cylinder liners, and Stellited valves and seats, the last-named being renewable, are incorporated in the engines of both these new models:

With regard to the goods-chassis, a point that should be reflected in reliable, efficient and lasting service, is that a number of vehicles was placed, before the model went into, production, in the hands of operators of various type, who ran them for long periods under actual working conditions.

This is a sure way of conclusively proving a new design of chassis to be satisfactory.
