FEARS OF THE MEAT TRADERS.

Collusion between London carriers and "a powerful organization" in the Metropolitan Area in regard to the use of C-licensed vehicles by meat traders was alleged by Mr. F. V. Smith, president of the London Retail Meat Traders' Association, speaking at Birmingham on Tuesday..

Mr. Smith was moving, at the autumn conference of the National Federation of Meat Traders, a resolution: " That this conference views with concern the continued increase of legislation relating to road transport. . . ."

A special meeting of the Southend "Sub Area of the Eastern Area of A.R.O. has been arranged to take place on Tuesday, October 11. S.T.R., The Commercial Motoi costs expert, is to address this meeting on the subject of rates, and Mr. H. J. Lloyd, chairman of the Eastern Area, is expected to discuss wages, with special reference to the effects of the Road Haulage Wages Act and steps which will have to be taken to decide what are, in fact, fair wages.

Wages and rates are inseparably connected and no haulier in the area. whether a member of A.R.O. or not, can afford to be absent.
