• Exel Logistics will fight to retain its distribution contract with 7-Eleven following the chain's acquisition by rival retailer Budgens, which handles its transport in-house.
Exel's contract to supply the 57 7-Eleven shops runs until March 1998, when negotiations with Budgens will begin on its transport plans. Exel says: "We are obviously very keen to keep the contract."
Budgens confirms that no decision has yet been made on whether Exel will keep with the contract, or if alternatives will be considered, such as Budgens handling its distribution inhouse. "This is a time to take stock and start making decisions," says a spokesman.
