Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

haulage very seriously. However, once a week our, quirky correspondent, the Hawk, steps off his perch to take a humorous look at the industry to keep us all sane. If you have any off-beat yarns that illustrate the stranger, or silher, side of the business, he'd like to hear from you. As a softhearted old bird, he's also happy to publicise charitable works— and is always interested in events for the vintage vehicles he drove as a fledgling. Drop the Hawk a line at Commercial Motor, Bird's Eye View, Pm H203, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey SM2 SAS, or fax him on 0181 652 8969.

Manpower

A lthough never a chap of great physi

cal prowess, the Hawk nonetheless admires strength and fitness in his fellow men. As you can see, these lads are prime specimens in peak condition. They are the Tug-a-War team, sponsored by Dane Valley Haulage, which has been operating ERF trucks for more than 40 years.

The team keeps in top condition by training at the yard two to three times a week. It is really quite a family affair; the team manager is David Marlow, boss of Dane Valley Haulage, and the team coach is his brother Philip. Both brothers are former pullers and work champions of the team-pulling competition, representing Bosley Woodtreatment.

The team pictured here recently became UK Champions at 640kg weight (where the weight of all eight pullers cannot exceed the stated weight—so hog off fatty). I reckon they would be handy blokes to run into if your vehicle needed a tow
