Driver's view:1

T must work in a different industry from Mr Heads (CM 23-29 October). I regularly drive overseas and know plenty of other drivers on the same sort of work. After a day's hard graft handling route finding, the ever-increasing amount of red tape and deadlines which seem to get tighter all the time the last thing I'm in the mood for is drinking or fighting— let alone chasing after women (which can be a dodgy thing to do in many parts of Europe).

I don't pretend to be some sort of saint but, like my friends in the job, I do my partying at home and don't put my job at risk by acting like an idiot just because I'm overseas.

Besides anything else, my overnight money barely runs to bed, breakfast and a shower — it certainly wouldn't stretch to serious drinking sessions in foreign bars.

WH Davies, London SE23.
