Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DESIGNED for carrying long pipes, L./girders, timber, or similar loads, a novel type of semi-trailer attachment has been introduced by R. A. Dyson and Co., Ltd., 76-80, Grafton Street, Liverpool, 8. The accompanying diagrammatic, drawing shows its principle. It will be seen that the outfit consists essentially of a two-wheeled trailer, equipped with two bolsters, and a swivelling bolster, fixed on the platform ...any suitable towing vehicle, the connecting link being provided by the load itSelf.

A chain,. for connecting the trailer with the lorry, is included in the equipment, but this is only a precautionary fitment, the load forming the effective tractive link, and affording the rigidity necessary for maintaining the trailing unit in position. The complete outfit together with its load is virtually an articulated vehicle.

Built for loads totalling 4-5 tons, the outfit is, of course, adjustable for length. Vacuum cylinders, for operat

ing the brakes on the rearmost wheels are mounted on the trailing unit ; thus, no difficulty in connection with the brakes is caused by the variable wheelbase.

In the illustration of the rear portion, it will be seen that this is coupled direct to the tractive unit, for which purpose a triangular drawbar is pro vided. To render the trailer stable when detached, there is a telescopic leg, the foot of which can be raised clear when out of use.

The forward assembly consists of a turntable carrying a similar bolster to those at the rear, and, we are informed, can be fitted to or removed from the lorry in about half an hour. Thus, the towing vehicle is free for general use when not required for the transport of material of the type for carrying which this Dyson outfit is intended.
