Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ACOMPANY known as Auto Diesels, Ltd., 246, Great Portland Street, London, W.1, has been formed to take over the sales of Victor oil engines for transport work, for the area comprising London, Home Counties, and the South of England.

It will be remembered that these power units, made by Victor Oil Engines, Ltd., Cox Street. Coventry, are of the two-cylindered horizontally opposed type, with total enclosure for all parts. There are separate combus tion chambers of the rotary-swirl type, the atomizers being situated in the chambers themselves.

The former concern is marketing complete oil-engined vehicles; we illustrate one of the demonstration models. Its pay-load capacity is 10-12-cwt. with a coachbuilt van body of 113 cubic ft. capacity. Finished in priming colour, the price ex works is £275 complete, or £240 for the chassis.

Tho installation of the oil engine is neatly arranged. The engine-gearbox assembly being carried in a sub-frame, the Main chassis does not have to be cut, nor is its strength interfered with in any way.

The speed range, of 'the Cub engine allows ordinary gear ratios to be used. The governor sets the lower and upper limits, respectively, at 450 r.p.m. and 2,000 r.p.m. At 2,000 r.p.m. the van is travelling at 30.8 m.p.h. The fuel consumption claimed in respect of the vehicle is equivalent to around 70 m.p.g., whilst lubricating oil is used at the rate of one gallon per 2,000-2,500 miles. The engine has a power curve from 8 b.h.p. up to some 20 b.h.p., and the maximum torque is in the order of 47.5 lb.-ft. "

• The two separate fuel pumps and atomizers are located below cover plates secured to the upper casting; these give instant accessibility for maintenance work. No fan is required, but pump circulation is provided, and the oil cooler in the sump is water-jacketed, io that the lubricant temperature is kept at an efficient level.

The engine is complete with air and fuel filters, and the dynamo and starter are of the 12-volt type. A five-lamp lighting set is provided for the chassis. Although electrical starting is standardized, it is easily possible to start by hand with the aid of a decompressor. We saw this demonstrated; a noteworthy point was the absence of smoke from the exhaust.
