PALLET NETWORK Pall-Ex celebrated its 10th birthday last Saturday with a dinner held for depot staff, member companies and customers at the Celtic Manor Hotel in Newport, Pall-Ex MD Hilary Devey looked back over the company's history, thanking the founder members for their loyalty and hard work. She said the company had grown 100% year on year at first and is still showing 25% growth.

Devey announced two awards, voted for by members: Rochdale, Lanes-based Leach Distribution won Depot of the Year and Lincolnshire firm Cartwright Brothers was honoured for its Oustanding Contribution to the Network.

John Cartwright, MD of Cartwright Brothers, says: "We were totally surprised. We're a little family firm but we try to do everything professionally. It's very rewarding that the other members recognise that." The network's most recent recruit,Dublin-basal Ace Express Freight, was also present at the dinner. Director Mark Tracey says: 'We looked at all the pallet networks and made our decision very slowly. The company runs no trucks of its own, relying entirely on subcontractors.

Devey closed her speech with a personal promise to the network and a reference to her reputation for an indomitable business style: -I will do whatever I need to provide for the continued success of this network and it' that means the odd brickbat thrown my way then that's OK. "My frocks may be nice, but there's steel underneath."
