• Drivers hours and tachograph offences cost UK European Haulage of Staunton, Gloucester £2,950 in fines and costs when the company appeared before Westminster magistrates.
The company was fined £1,000 for failing to produce tachograph records and £50 for each of five offences of permitting drivers to take insufficient weekly rest. It was also ordered to pay £1,500 prosecution costs.
Four of the company's drivers were ordered to pay Defending, Simon Carr said the offences related to just 10 journeys. In one case two drivers had miscalculated the rules in relation to double manning One driver had been prosecuted for driving 10 minutes too long. Another had driven an extra day in the week but had complied in all other respects with the hours rules.
One of the falsifications related to a missing 48km, said Carr. The EC had allowed a leeway of 4% in journey distance, so in this particular case the chart had actually been out by only 10
