SPEAKING at the Central London SubArea Banquet and Ball of the Road Haulage Association on Friday, Mr. G. K. Newman, secretary-general of the Association, expressed a wish for greater collaboration between the Association and British Road Services.

"We do, of course, collaborate with British Road Services on several matters of mutual concern and we will continue to do so," remarked Mr. Newman. He said that if public freight transport, whether by road or rail, or by combinations of both in suitable circumstances. were really as economical, efficient, adaptable and reliable as the most exact'ng customer could wish, then many of those who now rely on their own C-licensed transport would eagerly entrust their products to the public carrier and thereby shed a great deal of worry and expense.

"I think Dr. Beeching has realized this," said Mr. Newman, "and we must realize it too."
