A TWO-MONTHS gap when no return I-1 loads of grain from England to Scotland are available was the basis for an application converting a Contract A licence to normal A, at Edinburgh on Monday. Mr. William Russell, managing director, Russell of Bathgate Ltd., said that the company operated under Contract A licence one vehicle and one artic with the normal user of "grain between &Scotland, Yorkshire and London" for Robert Hutchison and Co. Ltd., Kirkcaldy, whose traffic was growing. .
The minimum fee had been exceeded considerably. For two months, previous to the English harvests, no return loads were available, but the contract holder was still obliged to pay 195 for the return trip from London. The millers now asked for a more economic rate on such empty running. Mr. D. Brown, objecting for .B.R., suggested that a B licence was more appropriate. Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, granted the application as requested.
