fares has been recommended by the Central Fares Committee as a result of last week's meeting. Mr. A. Baynton was in the chair.
This proposal has been passed to the Metropolitan Licensing Authority, and if the subsequent applications succeed, fares charged on express services into and out of London will become 33+ per cent, higher than before the war. The recommendation suggests that any new rate authorized be introduced on the Thursday before Easter.
Some discussion took place during the meeting, on the subject of day return tickets, a source of disagreement at earlier meetings. Although it has been decided to recommend the increase, some operators, in particular those running services to the coast, wished to limit the availability of these concessions to Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Others wished them to be available at all times. No new decision was taken on the subject.
It is believed that the application to the Licensing Authority will take a new form, and will not be a joint one by all interested operators, as was the ease on the previous occasion.
