by Bryan Jarvis • Renault's three-axle Premium Long Distance tractive models with mid-lift or tag layouts are about to enter production in France.

Both models are Renaultdesigned and built but the development work on the midlift pusher-axle version, which is primarily for the UK market, was handled by its Dunstable plant. It takes the same Hendrickon system used on other popular makes of tractor.

This has largely taken over from traditional twin-steers which, unless there is a strong demand, are unlikely w be produced by Renault for the UK. Built for 38/44 tonnes, the Renault Premium LD mid-lift 6x2 is rated at 6.77 tonnes (centre) and 10.5 tonnes (driven) and with 7.1 tonnes on the front axle. Power comes from Renault's 380hp/1,750Nm 11.1litre MIDR engine driving through the standard ninespeed B9 gearbox. A B18 eighteen-speeder is optional, with or without TBV semi-automatic control.

The Hendrickson lifter is produced at Northampton and supplied direct to Renault's factory at Blainville, Normandy where the Premium LD 6x2 is to be produced on-line alongside Renault's own tag version.
