• Seven more vehicle testing stations are to offer Saturday testing from next month, but operators who use the weekend service will have to pay a supplement.
Fees for Saturday tests are now £18.60 for a truck, £11.70 for a trailer and £26 for a large bus.
The Vehicle Inspectorate has been opening 10 of its test centres on Saturdays for the past year. It now hopes to extend the service nationwide.
Saturday tests are available at Liverpool, Edinburgh, Northampton, South Manchester, Wrexham, Stoke, Yeading, Mitcham, Edmonton, Purfleet, Ipswich, Guildford, Gillingham, Preston, Norwich, Royston and Leeds.
