• Eldergrove, trading as AB Cars of Leeds, has had its licence revoked after North Eastern Traffic Commissioner Frederick Whalley heard that a piece of rope was being used to open a faulty entrance door on one of its buses.
The Commissioner heard that immediate prohibitions had been imposed on five vehicles inspected by a Department of Transport vehicle examiner and the company's sixth vehicle received an immediate prohibition during an annual test.
Managing director Brian Mellor said that the vehicle with the faulty door had been taken out of service. He denied that the vehicles had only gone into the garage carrying out the maintenance when they needed something done.
Refusing to postpone the implementation of the revocation, pending an appeal to the Transport Tribunal, Whalley said that in light of the company's previous bad record, including a similar problem in 1985, he did not feel that it was in the interests of public safety to allow it to continue to operate. lott-4
