Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A REPRIEVE could be in sight for Ford's loss-making Amsterdam factory which the company planned to close with the loss of about 1,325 jobs (CM, May 2).

The unions have reacted strongly against the closure of the plant, which assembled Transits, and is the sole production centre -for the Transcontinental. Union representatives at Ford plants in Britain, Belgium and West Germany agreed to black any attempts to switch production to their countries.

For a time, the Dutch workforce even occupied the plant and locked out their directors. Vehicles were prevented from leaving the premises.

Now Fords have agreed to examine any "alternative solutions" which workers' representatives care to submit to the board, though losses last year were Li Om.

Said a union spokesman: "We regard this changed attitude by the company as a decision to forget the closure decision and think again."
