Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE IRISH ROAD Haulage Association is meeting this week to discuss the possible ban of trucks with high-cube trailers.

frishTransport Minister Martin Cullen has indicated to the industry that he wants trucks that are too tall to fit through the E752m Dublin Port Tunnel to be outlawed throughout the country.

1RH A spokesman Jimmy Quinn says:"The minister is going to come out with a ban in the near future. We have already pointed out the stupidity of it."

The tunnel has an operating height of 4.65m, but the large semi-trailers that are at the heart of this controversy can measure up to 4.95m.

According to the 1RIIA. the tunnel was supposed to be high enough to allow for high-cube trailers. The idea behind it was that all heavy vehicles travelling to the port could be taken off the streets and would instead get to the M1 Dublin-Belfast motorway underground.

These vehicles are fast gaining popularity in the UK. Ireland and Spain after research showed that they offered operators substantial cost savings.

Quinn adds: "There is a perceived danger that doesn't really exist. This issue would never have arisen if the port tunnel was built at the right height."
