Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

According to Scania's Mick Palmer, the following typical warranty issues would cause the manufacturer to reject a claim: • Fair wear and tear. This often occurs with brake and clutch friction material, some brushes, and fan belts.

• An over repair. Manufacturers insist that the repair method is their decision and stipulate that the most economical (proper) repair is carried out. A customer will sometimes insist on replacement rather than repair, and if a dealer does this without authority a claim can be rejected.

• Vehicle abuse or 'incorrect driving method'. High torque ratings make it easier to damage the vehicle. Examples include: premature clutch wear caused by the vehicle being driven away in too high a gear; differential lock problems caused by being forced in with wheels turning at different speeds or being left in after use; half shafts suffering torque twist.

• Poor servicing and repairs, This is not something Scania suffers from as servicing is included in the two-year R&M scheme. If a failure is due to lack of lubrication, this will be seen on inspection.

You can reduce exposure to potential claim rejection by following this advice: • Ensure service is to the manufacturer's instructions; follow lubrication rules.

• Make sure the driver is familiar with the vehicle and encourage sympathetic driving techniques, • Report a fault to the manufacturer's agent as soon as possible-claims may be only partially accepted, or even rejected, if a fault isn't reported straight away and causes consequential damage.

• If your vehicle is recovered, don't forget to remove the prop shaft it could save a huge bill for a replacement gearbox.
