and halve its tyre-related breakdowns after switching to Michelin's Far Lives tyre package with tyre management supplied by Michelin distributor ATS Euromaster. Once the tread depth on Michelin tyres in the Anglian Water fleet has worn down to 3-4mm, ATS regrooves them.
The operation involves moving solid product from sewage works directly to treatment plants across the East of England. Anglian Water operates 49 waste tankers and tippers, comprising a mix of 26-tonne and 32-tonne Volvo and Scania rigids, with 44-tonne tractor unit combinations.
Neil Bessant, Anglian Water's fleet co-ordinator, explains: '' in the first year, our annual tyre bill was reduced by 5%, even allowing for the initial investment in the new Michelin product.
"The projected tyre expenditure for the second year (April 200510 April 2006) is expected to be a further 7.5%, representing a projected saving that is in excess of 15% over the f irst two years of the Michelin agreement."
Tyre-related breakdowns are down from 154 in 2003: to 92 in 2004 and 69 in 2005, reports Bessant. This translates into increased uptime of 128 hours.
