Notes on the Latest Sixcylindered Gotfredson with Vacuum Servo Brake.

SO months ago we were able to

MB publish preliminary details concerning the six-cylindered Gotfredson bus chassis, but at that time it-had not been received by the concessionnaires for this country, Messrs. Bonallack and SCRIS, St. George Works, Cable Street, London, El. Several examples, however, are now. here, and we have been able to examine one of these.

It is a most striking chassis with a wheelbase of 19 ft. 1 in., a track of 4 ft. 91 ins., and an engine of 3+-in. bore and 5i-in. stroke, developing well over 60 b.b.p. It is, of course, equipped with pneumatic tyres, these being of Goodyear make, 36 ins. by 6 ins., with twins at the rear ; 34-in. by 7-in. tyres can, however, be supplied, if required, at an extra cost. The overall length is 24 ft. II ins,, from facia board to end of frame measures 18 ft. 6 ins., the depth of the channel frame is 61 ins, at its greatest, and the flanges are 8 ins, wide tapering to 2+ ins.

The rear springs have a length of 4 ft. 6 ins., being 3 ins. wide. They take the torque, but the drive is taken through seamless steel radius tubes passing from the Timken rear axle to brackets on the side menabers.

The rear axle is of the full-floating type and has Duplex brakes. • - A Buda engine is employed, this being bolted up as a unit with the gearbox, the whole being= three-point mounted. The six cylinders are cast en . bloc and have a single-piece detachable head. There is a hot-spot in the inlet manifold, and the inlet pipe is also exhaust-heated.

The dynamo and starter are of Remy make, and ignition is by a Bosch magneto, a link belt being employed for the fan. Water circulation is effected by a centrifugal pump with two glands, and the petrol supply is Stewart Autovac.

The radiator is built up of aluminium castings and to its side brackets are bolted adjustable lamp brackets carrying non-glare lamps.

The gearbox is is Brown Lipe, and the drive to this is through a single-plate clutch. Owing to the length of the wheelbase the propeller shaft is made in three pieces having four Spicer joints, the final drive being by overhead worm.

The foot brake is assisted by a vacuum serve device known as the Bragg-Kliesrath, this being carried about the middle of the length of the chassii at the near side ,

There is an interestino.' warming and ventilating device called the Kysor. A funnel is mounted immediately behind the radiator and this communicates by a 3-in.-diameter flexible metallic pipe to a Jacket round the long ,silencer; from the rear end of this jacket air is conveyed, via a throttle, to the body, through which it freely circulates.

Alemite lubricators are employed throughout iuid a Lynite tyre pump is carried on the gearbox.
