Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CARLINE TRANSPORT in South Wales is selling 65 tractor units after failing to renew a contract with steel maker Corns. Most of the drivers on the contract will be decided in the next week are expected to transfer to Owens Road Services and Multiserv Logistics, which are taking over the work (CM2 June).

Paul Stiller, MD of Carline's parent group Stiller, says: We have been working very hard with the employment of our people and would expect it to con tinue on the same sort of work."

The auction at Canine's Bridgend base on 16 July will include 135 trailers. Stiller says many of the tractor units being sold are only used for on-site shunting; others are unconnected with the Corns contract.

"It's a sale that incorporates assets from around the Stiller Group," he adds. "Volumes in the industry as a whole are down and we have to take a hard look at our existing base and equipment."

The size of the group's delivery fleet —more than 300 vehicles —will not change significantly: "While we're having to reduce the size of our operations in certain areas, we're expanding in others. A significant proportion of the steel carrying fleet will be retained."
