• Two new tandem centreaxlecl drawbar outfits supplied to the Lane Group, by Ray Smith are fitted with the Dutch Estepe close-coupling system supplied by IMS of Loughborough. As the towing vehicle turns, a crank mechanism increases the 350mm gap between truck and trailer.
• Perkins has signed a 10year technology transfer contract with one of China's leading engine manufacturers. The deal with Tianjin Engine Works will add Phaser options to its four, six, eight and 12-cylinder range.
• The German Post Office has ordered 149 Iveco EuroTech tractive units, all equipped with Eaton's SAMT transmissions. This is SAMT's largest single order to date.
• Gardner Technical Services of Wolverhampton has launched a Quick-fit Load Guard to stop loads sliding off tail-lifts. Spar and AF Blakemore are among the first operators to fit it.
• Unigate Dairies has bought five Seddon Atkinson Strato 1 7-tonners with 244 temperature-controlled bodies by Refrigerated Vehicles of Sussex. The bodies have aluminium floors and Henderson Polar Plus insulated roller shutters.
