• Speculation that Mercedes-Benz may be interested in snapping up Ryder UK has been scotched by the manufacturer. A spokesman says: "There are no discussions we are aware of between Ryder and Mercedes-Benz."
The industry is still split on who would be likely bidders for Ryder's £239m-turnover business. Some sources still believe manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz or Leyland DaF parent Paccar would see Ryder's contract hire
and rental activities as a good fit, pointing
to the recent takeover of BRS by Volvo. But others believe finance houses are more 1111F/ tima. likely candidates. A spokesman for Ryder confirmed there had been considerable --interest expressed in the company but said mom an announcement was not imminent.
