THE FIRST agency agreement between a local council and a National Bus subsidiary company is about to start operating in the Burnley and Pendle area of Lancashire.
The NBC company involved is Ribble Motor Services who will from August 21 apply Burnley and Pendle fares within the local authority area. These fare reductions will be met by the aid of Government grant together with financial assistance from the county council and the Burnley and Pendle councils. The progress of the scheme will be reviewed County Councillor G. Woods, chairman of the county highways and transportation committee, told CM: "The county council feel that the days when, for instance, municipal bus operators should have protection, preventing • Ribble buses from picking up passengers within their boundaries, must be seen to be over.
