But the Chamber wants no more taxation' on road vehicles which could then be passed on to the consumer. Lorry routes on an advisory basis should be devised to avoid higher distribution costs.
The Chamber, replying to the Government's Green Paper on transport, says that railways are the place for freight on long-distance journeys, and that the roads are for cars and for local distribution of goods.
"The existing network of railway freight a Freightliner services should expanded in order to attn more business from t roads," says the Chamber.
