• TOTAL of 19 manufacturing companies of tyre-servicing equip ment is listed in the following guide. The names of each company, together with the trading address, are followed by a brief description of their products. More than 40 inquiries were sent out and the following represents the only manufacturers of suitable equipment who replied.

253 Bordesley Green, Birmingham, 9.

A N ingenious device manufactured by this company is the Liha Flexible Pump aid (illustrated). Whilst not strictly servicing equipment in the normal sense, it is a useful attachment for use on twinwheeled vehicles, making the maintenance of tyre pressures on the inner wheels much easier. ft consists of a flexible pipe, permanently attached to the valve of the inner tyre, with a second valve secured to a bracket on the outer wheel to which the airline can be attached.

APASEAL LTD. Bowes House, Hailsham, Sussex.

A VERY wide range of tyre-servicing rAequipment is made by this company, including tyre repair patches and buffing solution. Tyre removers manufactured by the company include the APA pneumatic tyre remover and the APA pneumatic bead breaker, both of which facilitate the removal of light van tyres without removing the wheels from the vehicles. For larger tyres, Apaseal offers the David II machine for removal and fitting. The tool exerts an even pressure on all parts of the tyre bead at one time, and levers are not required, It is made in two sizes: the 113/99A for 20-in, wheels and the D/99/16 for 16-in. wheels, and is manually operated.

For the fitting of tubeless tyres, the company offers a pneumatic bead expander, which is a Neoprene tube of small diameter capable of receiving air under pressure and encased in a specially fabricated nylon sleeve. It is secured centrally round the outside of the tyre and when inflated forces the beads of the tyro' against the rims of the wheel. The tyre itself is then inktted to normal pres

sure. A quick twist of the screwed collar releases the air from the expander, which is then easily removed from the tyre. The expander is made in two sizes --standard for 13to 16-in. tyres, and small for 10to 14-in, tyres.

For the inspection of ISto 20-in. tyres (or with additional extension puller arms, even larger tyres) a hydraulic tyre spreader is offered, whilst for lighter tyres two forms of combined tyre spreader, inspection and repair machines are available, which allow the tyre to be revolved whilst in the spreader. One is for large tyres with a smaller., pillar-type unit for lighter tyres.

Vulcanizer kits are available for all sizes of tyres, the TT Lectoseal Light Type for repairing light van tubeless and conventional tyres, and the IT (Truck) Lectoseal for commercial-sized tyres. An Aquarium transparent testing tank is also supplied for testing teaks.
