BUS companies described Cheltenham's disc parking scheme as " marvellous " and bus drivers had written to the highways committee to express their pleasure, the Chamber of Commerce welcomed it and the unloading bays near the shops had proved adequate.
This report on the Cheltenham experiment was given in the Commons by the town's Tory MP, Mr. Douglas DoddsParker, who added that there had been a great fund of goodwill from the general public and the police.
Mr. Stephen Swingler, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, noted that about 20 local authorities had already approached Cheltenham to discover details of the scheme. The Ministry, he said, would consider favourably applications by any who wished to copy Cheltenham.
