Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1 fulfilled in manufacturing an electrode holder. To be efficient and safe in use it must be unbreakable, and to cause the minimum of discomfort to the operator it must be light and welt balanced. To give protection against shock, the holder has to be an efficient di-electric, and should be non-hygroscopic, so that the electrical resistance is not impaired by moisture or humidity.

The Quasi-Arc Co., Ltd., Bilston, Staffs, is now producing a holder, made from densified wood, laminates and resin-bonded paper., tubes, which is claimed to fulfil all these requirements. Known as the Mascol holder, the hand guard is made from a solid block of

B2 Puritan. A hollow bronze bar is keyed through the block, and the electrode, inserted into a hole drilled in the side of the bar, is gripped by a non-revolving internal plunger and is operated by twisting the handle. The action is similar to that of some types -of hand vice.

The bronze bar extending beyond the hand guard is protected with a lightalloy hood, with an inner sheath made of moulded asbestos. The hand grip below the guard is a Bakelized paper tube, which is keyed to the inner turnscrew terminal with a Permali peg.

It is a light and well-balanced tool weighing only l lb., 4 lb. of which-is represented by insulation.
