THE Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham, 24, is one of the pioneers to adopt the pooling of day-to-day experiences of its

workers for the common good. So successful have been the results that the idea may commend itself to others and so make a practical contribution to the war effort.. • Suggestions are written by workers and placed in boxes in the different departments. They may, if the writer wishes, be anonymous in the event of the employee feeling that the suggestion is a criticism, but, despite this, not more than 1 per cent. is unsigned. For those who are diffident about writing or feel that they cannot properly A30 explain their ideas, they can obtain the assistance of a special committee secretary.

In the past six months some 50 per cent, of the suggestions sent in have been carried into effect. They comefrom every grade of worker, and are considered by a committee composed of representatives of the engineers, rubber workers and staff, whilst the chairman, secretary, and technical experts are appointed by the management,

The suggestions deal with a wide range of subjects, amongst them being amenities and well-being, saving of time, economy in materials, ideas concerning plant or processes, avoidance of waste, and safety. They often giver ,a useful indication of initiative. Sometimes they point to the need for examination of conditions which might seem remote from the suggestions in themselves. Some of the hints may save money, whilst others may mean initial expenditure.

There is no fixed scale of awards, but the committee finds it of great encouragement value to allot a substantial number of awards, although each amount may dot be high.

Considerable importance is attached. to the maintenance of interest in this Suggestions Scheme as part-Of a general plan for promoting good relations, and the chairman of the Fort Dunlop Suggestions Committee, Mr. W. Bond, will welcome the opportunityof giving further details to any industrial organization which natty be interested
