C. E. DAWSON and KEROSENE CARBURETTERS LI,MTED, No, 1l.531, dated 17th May, 1915.—This specification describes a carburetter in which the secondary-air inlet, is provided with an automatic valve for the purpose of obtaining a constant vacuum or suction at all periods of the suction stroke, notwithstanding the variation in the piston speed.

The invention is illustrated as applied to the carburetter

described in patent No. 28,158 of 1910; the jet is surrounded by a hot-air inlet, and the secondary air is admitted by two circumferential ports into the mixing chamber ; curved baffles are situated over these ports to direct the extra air towards the middle.

According to the present invention the secondary-air ports are supplied from a Cylinder projecting from the side of the mixing chamber. A port by which air enters the cylinder is

controlled by a piston valve inside. This valve is normally held at the outer end of the cylinder by a spring, and when

in that position it closes the air port. On the suction stroke this piston valve is moved in, and opens the air port proportionally to the suction upon it, so that the negative pressure at the jet is kept approximately constant.

S. BOULT, No. 11,481, dated 16th May, 1913.—This specification describes a resilient wheel which comprises two 'panthers, an inner wheel and an outer rim. The inner wheel consists of the usual hub and spokes, and each of the spokes at its outer end is provided with a cylindrical opening to receive a block of rubber or other suitable elastic material. The ends of the spokes may be joined together by webs to ntifFen the wheel.

The outer rim consists of a channel-section member, the two sides of the channel being directed inwardly and spaced apart, at such a. dista.nce that they can embrace the spokes and cushions on the inner wheel. The rim is secured to the Miter wheel by means of belts which pass through the two side-flanges of the channel, and through the elastic cushion, being vulcanized to the latter.

ALLINCHAM and 1-1Axs RENoLD, LTD., No. 15,157, dated let July. 1913.--Some difficulty has been experienced in designing chain links which, besides being sufficiently strong, shall also he connected together in such a a manner that a damaged link can readily be replaced. The chain works always in tension so that in the ordinary ccnstrnction of chains in which the links are connected to gether by transverse pins, the wear between the pins and the holes in the links is entirely on one side at each bearing place, while, moreover, the pin is in shear between each two adjacent. links. To provide for this pins have been used of a diameter larger than would otherwise be reepiired. The specification describes several constructions of link suitable for obviating the above disadvantages. One is shown in _the reproduced diagram. This chain consists mainly ef links, but these are tied together at the outsides by links of half I-shape. The lateral projections of the links overlap each °thee so as to take up the tension of the chain, and the links are hole, together by pins passing through them. Since these pins are practically free from applied stress they need not he made so large as would otherwise be necessary. The invention may be tipplied to chains for simple chain wheels with complete transverse teeth, or to circumferentially-grooved wheels.

S. A. CURR-IN, No. 21,392, dated 22nd September, 1913.-P-The road wheels are driven from the motor by two flexible shafts which are themselves driven in opposite directions, at the same speed, by a single central-driving shaft. This shaft is connected to the flexible shafts through chain wheels and gearing.

Casings may he provided for the flexible shafts, and the latter may drive either the rear or the front, wheels.

In flexible shafts there is a certain amount of back lash., and this will allow one wheel only to drive when the car is runII pg round corners.
