Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOREIGN commercial vehicle sales per cent last year while overall sales in the UK slumped by 24 fell by only seven per cent.

Ford was again market leader with sales of 66,899—a drop of 3,000 on the previous year, according to figures issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Leyland was the only major manufacturer to improve its figures over the year with sales of 66,655—an increase of 599 on the 1974 figures—but Mazda, competing in the under 31 tons category, added 305 to its sales for a total of 1,395.

At the heavy end of the market—over 31 tons—Ford, Bedford and Chrysler all pushed up their sales, while Leyland sold 66,254 but lost its market lead to Ford, which sold 66,899.

ERF and Foden also lost ground last year. ERF sales dropped to 1,581 from 1,955 and Foden fell from 1,457 to 926.

The only importers to show improved figures in the heavy vehicle classes were Fiat and MAN.
