SHORT HAULS

Take-off

BRS Truck Rental got its new branch at Heathrow Airport off the ground last week by landing a rental deal with British Airways for ten 32-ton tractive units.

The units are on a threemonth hire pending delivery of new vehicles for the airline's trunking service.

The airport branch address is at Clockhouse Lane, Bedfont.

Cool rental

REFRIGERATED vehicles with a gross weight of 7.37 tons are being offered for short-term rental by Avis Truck Rental. They are capable of being driven by non-hgv drivers following the DoE's move on downplating (CM January 2).

Sheffield to Europe

CAVE WOOD (Transport) Ltd, which specialises in door to door service for both large and small consignments between UK and Europe, has opened a new branch at Kelham Island, 1 Alma Street, Sheffield S3 8SB.

This offers Yorkshire exporters direct services to Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Groupage to Pakistan

A NEW weekly trailer service to Pakistan for groupage traffic has been set up by British freight forwarder Davies Turner. Previously, only its full loads have run straight through to destinations within Pakistan. Now, groupage loads will be cleared at Torkam, on the border, and then either collected by the consignee or delivered by Davies Turner's local agent.

Lorries f ollow Davies Turner's usual Middle East route out to Tehran via Turkey. They check in to the forwarder's own lorry compound in Tehran where details for the rest of the journey are checked and confirmed. They are then routed through Afghanistan on to Torkam. Full-load trailers are cleared at the border and proceed to Lahore, Islamabad or other interior destinations.

Journey time is about 25 days subject to weather conditions en route.
