Nicholas J. Barham, 34. has been appointed general manager (designate) of Tyburn Road Tank Services, part of the Powell Duffryn Group. The appointment is from February 16. Mr. Barham joined the Powell Duffryn Group in November 1968, since when he has been personal assistant to Peter Hamilton, managing director, sales and service division, Hy-Mac Ltd.

C. H. Bridgen has been appointed planning and development manager. BRS Parcels Ltd.: he was formerly research officer. G. Owen has been appointed management services manager; he was formerly a consultant.

J. G. McLachlan, 45. has been appointed divisional sales manager—Scotland and Northern Ireland by the Automotive Division of Electric Power Storage Ltd.

John Shepherd, 40, the National Carriers Ltd. assistant depot manager at Aberdeen since 1968, has been appointed depot manager at Taunton.

D. G. Dunphy has been appointed general manager of the Engineering Division of the C. F. Taylor Group of Companies, Wokingh am. Mr. Dunphy left the RAF in 1967 to join the Sperry Gyroscope Division of Sperry Rand Ltd.. as assistant to the general manager and subsequently aero products support manager.

Reginald Kenneth Skynner has joined Motor Rail Ltd., of Bedford, as field sales engineer with the company's Lolode Trailer Division. Until recently Mr. Skynner had his own company—Kenneth Skynner Ltd.—manufacturing Skyson and Kenson trailers near Rochester. Kent, and latterly he was responsible for sales of trailers made by lbbett Engineering Ltd.. of Bedford.

S. Rawell, 62, Co-operative Wholesale Society traffic manager, has retired—earlier than he would otherwise have done—on account of ill-health. Mr. Rawell joined the CWS transport department in 1923.

Paul J. F. Croset has retired as managing director of Holset Engineering on being appointed deputy chairman of B.H.D. Engineers Ltd. and group chierexecutive. He continues as a director of Holset Engineering and also joins the boards of Bryan Donkin, British Furnaces, and W. C. Holmes and Co. Ltd. R. B. Hesselden has been appointed managing director of Holset Engineering Co. Ltd. William Tollick has been presented with a tape recorder to mark his retirement after 20 years as a fulltime official with the Scottish Commercial Motormen's Union in Edinburgh. Peter Webb, vice-president, made the presentation.

Harry Paxton, foreman of the paint shop at J. H. Sparshatt and Sons Ltd., who has retired after 48 years, received a surprise gift of £100 at his farewell, the money was presented to him by a director, Gordon Sparshatt, the money having been made up to 100 by the directors after a collection among Mr. Paxton's workmates.

R HA elections

J. Gam, Machins Transport (Surflee0 Ltd., has been elected chairman of the RHA's Boston sub-area. J. W. H. Smith and G. W. Pell are vice-chairmen: D. Pell is secretary, R. Wilson, Wilson Brothers. Belper, has been elected chairman of the Derby sub-area; T. B. Llewellyn, L Davis, H. Bonsai! and D. S. Ascott are vice-chairmen; Mr. Ascott is also secretary.

ITA elections

At the National Council meeting of the ITA in London last Saturday, four members were elected to Fellowship. The new Fellows are J. Elliott. chairman of the South Wales division of the Association and chairman of the South Wales division of the FTA, who is traffic manager of Alcan Industries Ltd., Newport, Monmouthshire: James Day, chairman of the London division of the ITA, traffic and communications manager, Telephone Manufacturing Ltd., Wallington, Surrey: C. Hewitt, past chairman of the Merseyside division of the ITA, regional operations manager of Calor Gas (Distributing) Ltd., of Liverpool; and C. W. Rees. The first three were being recognized for their services to the Association when representing it on the Transport Managers' Licence Committee: the fourth member, Mr. Rees, is a past chairman of the Birmingham division of ITA, and transport manager of Tube Products Ltd.. Aldbury, Birmingham; he was being recognized for outstanding service to the Association.

NGTM elections

A. E. iGeordiel Elvin was elected chairman of the national executive council of the National Guild of Transport Managers at its first meeting at Doncaster on Saturday. Mr. Elvin is transport adviser to Simons and Co. Ltd.. Silwood Street, London. SEIB, W. E. Ingram, group training officer with Consolidated Land Services Ltd.. Scunthorpe, was elected senior vice-chairman; R. W. Beardsley, transport manager for British Celanese Ltd.. Spondon. Derby, is junior vice-chairman.
