AThis does not seem probable. A small

training centre for operators of such . equipment is run by RoSPA and the need for wider training facility is recognized. The National Joint Council on Materials Handling, representing manufacturers and equipment users, has set up a study group to deal with operators' training and safety. Its chairman has visualized regional centres with courses slanted to meet industrial needs in particular areas rather than one central control unit. These would be paid for by industrial users under a levy system and backed by Government grants.

Although the cost of such a training scheme would be high, improvement in the standard of operation of handling equipment would ensue. A number of large users already run their own scheme of training for fork lift truck drivers, notably Kodak Ltd., with excellent results,
