FROM A SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

THE more liberal approach of the Ministry of

Transport to the issuing of short-term licences to Continental hauliers has resulted in reciprocal concessions on the part of several European governments.

After talks on bilateral agreements in London, the French, Austrian and Belgian authorities announced that applications for permits from UK hauliers will be granted much more speedily. The Austrian Ministry of Commerce has agreed that UK applications to operate to or through Austria will be dealt with by telephone, telegram, telex, or return of post. Applications should be sent to the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Reconstruction, Stubenring 1, Vienna I.

The procedure for Belgian permits has also been greatly simplified. Applications, which will be answered by return of post, need state only the name and address of the British operator. The address for applications is: Ministry of Communications, Transport Administration, Direction Cl, Cantersteen 12, Brussels; Telex: Transver Bruxelles 23285. This revised procedure applies not only to single journeys but also to a number of trips over a period.
