Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Cotter Replacement

THE removal and replace.ment of the split type of valve cotter should be simplified by the use of the special equipment introduced by Messrs. The Elms Garage, Birmingham. There are three separate units comprising a valvelifter, cotter remover and cotter replacer.

The valve-lifter has a parallel action which obviates spring distortion and the possibility of slipping. A notable feature of the tool is the locking device, which is readily set in any position by means of the operative's thumb.

After the spring and valve have been raised, the cotter remover, which has a cupped end, is placed under the valve stern. The spring is then lowered until the spring collar is supported on the periphery of the tool, which in turn, rests on the tappet. A light blow on the head of the valve will immediately free the cotters.

The replacement tool comprises a handle and two "scissor" arms, at the ends of which are spring-loaded claws. Cotters of any size may be loaded into the jaws, which are opened by thumb-slides positioned above the

handle.

The three tools cost £2 10s., the lifter being priced at £1 10s., the• remover at 5s., and the cotter inserter at 15s.
