ANOTHER export record was set up by the British commercial-vehicle industry in November, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders announces. During the month, 9;206 goods and passenger vehicles, valued at £3,941,204, were sent overseas.

October's exports were themselves a record and the further spurt made last month ensures that the total volume of shipments for the year will handsomely exceed the figure for 1948.

The total number of commercial vehicles exported in November was larger than the average aggregate output for both the home and overseas markets before the war.

L OF T. STILL GROWING

SPEAKING at the Institute of Transport's annual general meeting on December 19, the president, Brig.-Gen. Sir H. Osborne Mance reported that the Institute now had some kind of local organization for all parts of the United Kingdom. During the year four groups and three sections had been formed. Graduate and student societies were multiplying in.-number—one of the best omens for, the future of the Ittstitute. The .president hoped that every encouragement would be given to graduate and students.

Referring to the practice of holding a congress in this country and a tour on the Continent in alternate years, Sir Osborne said that with nationalization, the success of the reunions, and particularly of the congresses at . home, would depend on whether the British Transport Commission and the Executives would give reasonable facilities for their staffs to attend.

The annual report revealed that there were 2,568 corporate and 5,690 non-corporate members on September 30, 1949, a total of 8,258, compared with a total of 5,053 members in September, 1939.
