Great interest is felt at Southport, in the Town Council's proposal to buy a first-aid motor fire-engine, of which we made mention a week ago.

The Leyland turbine-engine has already done gaud work at Dublin. It was put through a severe test on Grattan Bridge, as a preliminary, and it was " lent " for work at Kingatown on one occasion. It has plenty of power, both for its own propulsion and the working of the pump.

Vehicle Fires.

The Public Control Committee of the L.C.C. reports that its inspectors have investigated petroleum-spirit fires which recently occurred on a motoreab in Bryanston Square, W.. on motor omnibuses in York Road. Wandsworth and High Street, Putney, and on motorvans in Shaftesbury Avenue and West Side. (Clapham Common). Legal proceedings are being instituted in three of these

cases, under the Secretary of State's regulations. Some of the fires on motor vehicles appear to be due to the lamps' being placed too close to the petrol spirit tanks, and the Committee is considering how to deal with this question more thoroughly in connection with proposals for the amendment of the Motor Car Acts.

Harrogate's Intentions.

At the Royal Hotel, lFla.rrogate, on the 17th inst., the local brigade held its annual dinner. The Superintendent, Mr. T. Asquith, presided over a goodly company, and the Chairman of the Fire-Brigade Committee, Councillor Cattley, stated that they hoped soon to have. a motor fire-engine.. The saving to the ratepayers should be 10D a year.

Another Motor Fire-Engine for Willesden.

A Merryweather petrol motor firstaid ma.chine has been in service at Willesden for nearly 18 months, and the Council has just decided to purchase a petrol " Hatfield " motor fire-engine, capable of delivering 351)400 gallons per minute, the order for which has been placed with the Greenwich works. The new motor is fitted with a reciprocating pump, which was, in this case, preferred to a pump of the turbine or series-centrifugal type. The new Willesden engine will be arranged to carry a fire escape, already in the possession of the brigade, and usual fire-brigade gear.
