AN OPERATOR who had one of his vehicles impounded by Vosa may not get it back because he failed to pay a fine.
The warning was given as Jabber Abdul Khan of Lozells, Birmingham, who runs Khan Transport, was fined 2500 with 2115 costs by Solihull magistrates after admitting to having no 0-licence.
Khan told the magistrates that his truck was taken from him after the agency discovered the offence in June during a roadside check in Birmingham.
Dominic Green, prosecuting for Vasa, told the magistrates that the truck had been impounded after Khan had twice been warned for having no 0-licence.
Khan offered to pay the fine and costs at the rate of 230 a week, but this was refused by the magistrates, who said: "You need to be serious about this.
"You knew you were going to be fined and you will pay the fine and costs at 2100 per week."
A Vosa spokesman says: "Hauliers have 21 days in which to make an appeal to have their vehicle returned and Khan failed to do this. He may now never get his vehicle back."
Khan says he did not know he only had 21 days in which to reclaim his vehicle. He wants to get the truck back to sell it and then run a fleet of vans instead to avoid the licensing regime that controls LGV operators.
