Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS A professional driver I am shocked and offended by the naivety of Tony Howell's recent letter (CM, July 26).Does Mr Howell really believe that a commercial driver (who has satisfied the enforcers of the strictest driving legislation in the world to be on the road at all) does not have the skill or intelligence to assess whether any course of action he takes (be it using CB or not) is likely to prevent him from the safe discharge of his duties?

The claim that the use of a CB would distract a commercial , driver's concentration is an affront to the ethics of our profession, any individual driver who thought this was the case .would certainly not use it, but I can assure Mr Howell that any driver who has the skill to be a commercial driver at all would not be distracted by using a CB.

Mr Howell has obviously not considered that many industries and Government bodies already use two-way, yet these drivers have no hgv or any proof of their ability on the road. So let's hear your real reasons for being against CB, Mr Howell, instead of knocking our industry, although I suspect that these reasons would be even less plausible.
