LTHOUGH exports of commercial Pl. vehicles fell in number in June, compared with May, the value rose by nearly Elm. Weekly average production in June was 5,827—slightly less than the May rate hut above the average for the first half of the year.

Production in June comprised 28,074 goods vehicles, road hgulage tractors and special types, 898 motorbuses and trolleybuses, and 162 battery-electries. Of the goods vehicles, 14;362-were of under 15 cwt. capacity, 5,372 from 15 cw1.-3 tons, 5,947 from 3-6 tons, and 2,393 over 6 tons. The passenger Vehicles comprised 16 trolleybuses, 692 single-deck motorbuses and 190 doubledeck motorbuses.

Advance figures published by the Board of Trade show that in July, 23,664 commercial vehicles (22,989 goods and 675 public service vehicles) were built. These figures contrast with a total of 19,645 (19,023 lorries and 622 buses and coaches) in July, 1956.

Last month 10,069 commercial vehicles were exported, of which 9,516 were lorries and 553 were buses and coaches. In July, 1956, 11,282 vehicles were shipped, consisting of 10,959 goods and 323 public service vehicles.

RATES AND PORT TRAFFIC

THE principal feature of the Institute of Traffic Administration's annual conference at Cleveddn, Somerset, from October 4-6, will be a discussion by Mr. F. D. Arney, general manager of the Port of Bristol Authority, and Mr. 1-1. Leat, national chairthan of the Institute of Shipping and Forwarding Agents, of the effects of varying rates on port traffic. This will take place on the evening of October 4.

October 5 is devoted to a coach tour, a reception by the president and the annual dinner. • • CHEAP RETURN TRIAL

AS an experiment, the Western National Omnibus Co., Ltd., are to introduce a 4s, day return ticket from Taunton to Seaton. The standard return fare is 6s. 2d. The cheap ticket will be available from any picking-up point in Taunton from 9.30 a.m, onwards, and the return journey may be made on any bus from Seaton.
