L'OUR reasons were given last week by Mr. J. H. Downs, traffic manage4 of the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., why. the company had lost more than 8in, passengers in the past six years. These were an increase in the use of private cars, mobile shops which travelled around villages so that people did not have to go to the nearest towrn, to shop, television, which kept people indoors in the evenings. and the intro duction of Diesel trains.
The drop in evening passengers had been " astounding," he said, and there had also been an overall decline-of 10 per cent. in carryings since the recent strike.
Commenting on Mr. Downs' statement, Chr. I. P. Murphy, .chairman of the Grimsby-Cleethorpes joint transport undertaking, said that their buses were carrying more people than evei before.
