Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH TRUCKPOL funding arrangements for 2009-10 have still to be finalised, TruckPol and the West Midlands Police are set to use 'capture trucks' as part of an ongoing plan to come down hard on freight crime criminals.

The HGV crime arm of the Association of Chief Police Officers' Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVC1S) has used sponsorship to fund these 'capture trucks,' which are equipped with SmartWater to help catch and convict lorry theft gangs.

The police will park the trucks in areas where criminals are known to operate.

"If companies lose expensive loads, the price of goods go up, firms go bust and jobs are lost — so it's very much a crime that affects us all." says Detective Chief Inspector Gary Booth. • West Midlands Police has revealed a drop in lorry crime following the case of a Greek truck driver stabbing a suspected robber to death in Coleshill (TruckNet UK column, CM 12 March). Although the number of reported UK HGV crimes rose from 203 in February to 283 in March, TruckPol confirms that there was only one hijack in March in the West Midlands.
