Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Having worked in the quarrying and construction industry for nearly 25

years, I read with great interest the recent letters in Commercial Motor concerning a training certificate for operators of lorry loaders. I wonder if a similar situation applies to the fork-lift drivers 'licence' which is generally thought of as a legal requirement?

Also, along similar lines, I have heard stories through the grapevine of licences for drivers/operators of construction plant (ie loaders, dozers, graders, scrapers, dumpers, etc) becoming a must in the future.

If any other reader could shed light on this subject I would be grateful; particularly if and how it would apply to the driver of a low-loader who is required in the course of his work to drive various types of plant on and off the trailer.

RD Brothwood Bovey Tracey, Devon.
