1 I The licence held by Carol and Christopher Sayer, trading as CT Transport, of Leyburn, has been revoked by North Eastern Licensing Authority Frederick Whalley, and he has refused their application for a fresh licence.

The Sayers were seeking renewal for two vehicles and three trailers and appeared at a Leeds disciplinary inquiry into their poor maintenance record.

Department of Transport vehicle examiner Anthony Manby said he had examined one vehicle and had issued a delayed prohibition for eight defects which appeared to have been present for some time.

Whalley commented that this was not the first occasion that the Sayers' standard of maintenance had been criticised. Prohibition notices had been issued over the years, and unsatisfactory maintenance had led to two warning letters. Chistopher Sayer said that three commercial garages who had been responsible for the vehicles' maintenance, had proved unsatisfactory, Sayer said that he had now signed a contract with the Freight Transport Association which would undertake the maintenance.

Whalley told him that the FTA did not undertake repairs, and Sayer replied that he would do minor repairs himself and major repairs would be sent into one of the commercial garages.

Whalley said Sayer had already said that garage was unsatisfactory, and he could not be satisfied there would be adequate maintenance arrangements.
